The Council ministers set the responsibilities and
tasks of the Department of Palestinian Affairs as follows:
- Monitoring, studying and analyzing issues related to Palestinian affairs inside and
outside the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
- Following up the Palestinian issues on the Arab, Islamic and International levels
- Participating in the works of the "Joint Jordanian Palestinian Committee for
supporting the stability of the Palestinians in the occupied territories.
- Organizing the contacts required by the operations of UNRWA and coordinating them with the ministries and government departments.
- Coordinating with UNRWA in providing general services in accordance
with the agreement signed, in this regard,between UNRWA and the government.
- Visiting UNRWA instalations and facilities in the kingdom and following up these affairs.
- Supervising and handling the affairs of the refugees and the fisplaced persons and managing the refugee camps in the kingdom governorates
in coordination with the ministries and other departments.
- Studying the issues of the Palestinians in the occupied territories concerning governmental departments as well as public and private institutions in
coordination with the concerned authorities to resolve such issues.
- Coordinating with the ministries and concerned departments in organizing the people crossing over the bridges and taking part in
solving the problems that may come up during the visits of Palestinians to the Kingdom or staying here or passing through the Jordanian
territory to other destinations aboard.
- Monitoring the building of additional housing units inside the camps, rehabilitation works, opening shops, follow up contracting bids related to construction, and
coordinating with the administrative governors in this regard.
The Department of Palestinian Affairs also follows up the implementation of general services in the camps and defines the locations of land plots and grants then to eligible persons.
To implement these responsabilities and tasks, the Department of Palestinian Affairsdepend on its organizational structure and its field offices in the camps. These
pffices facilitate the daily affairs and extend general services to the beneficiaries in the camps.
Currently, the Department of Palestinian Affairs has five officesin the refugee camps:
- The Capital Governorate Office, which supervises (Wihdat,
Al-Hussein, Prince Hassan, Talbiyah and Madaba camps.
- Zarqa Governorate Office, which supervises Zarqa, Sukhneh and Hitteen camps.
- Balka Governorate Office, which supervises Al-Baqa camp.
- Jerash Governorate Office, which supervises the camps of Jerash and Souf.
- Irbid Governorate Office, which supervises the camps of (Martyr) Azmi-Al-Mufti and
Irbid.
